In 1953, Abraham Kef opened his shop in Amsterdam’s Marnixstraat. Abraham Kef was a pioneer. A flamboyant cheese lover with excellent stories, who alongside his French cheeses, has left an indelible mark in the Amsterdam cheese scene and beyond.
Following his footsteps, Marike van der Werff has managed the shop on the Marnixstraat since 2005. Nine years later, Marike decided to expand by adding another location on the Czaar Peterstraat in Amsterdam East. Three years later, in the spring of 2017, she opened a third location: a cheese shop along with a terrace and tasting room on the Van der Pekplein in Amsterdam North. Kef offers a wide range of carefully selected cheeses in all stores. Quality is always guaranteed due in part to the expertise of Philippe Olivier, an affineur in Boulogne-sur-Mer with whom Kef has worked closely for many years.
We currently work in close collaboration with our master affineur Philippe Olivier (since 1903) and hold this partnership in high regard. Maison Olivier offers us access to a network of the most authentic and traditional cheese makers with whom they have worked for decades. Furthermore, Olivier understands and cultivates the art of ripening cheeses like no other, which allows us to always present ripe cheeses.
